Fuel cell energy sources
The unique energy solutions offered by Metha Energy can be fueled with almost any energy source, including diesel, pure hydrogen, jet fuel and methanol. This ensures low barriers for integration.
In the development of the technology focus has been placed on methanol as a highly effective and easily accessible energy source. We consider the option to use methanol as the energy source as one of our key competitive advantages. With this energy source we have an energy efficiency of above 40% compared to 19% energy efficiency in 2008 standard internal combustion engines (European standard).
Achieving this level of efficiency with a methanol mixture has placed this technology provided by Metha Energy as a technological leader in the methanol fuel cell market.
Our fuel cell technology currently operates on a 60/40 methanol/water mix, a non-volatile, safe liquid that will not burn. Methanol is fully bio-degradable with a half-life of 1-7 days. This approach provides not only a solution for transportation, but also an environmental and national energy security solution as well.
Methanol at a glance:
- Is an unlimited natural chemical resource
- Offers national energy independence
- Offers significan CO2 reduction
- Currently sells for less than $1/gallon - without subsidies! (article by Robert Zubrin)
Currently, methanol is mostly made from natural gas production. However, CO2-neutral methanol can be fabricated from any sort of biomass, waste products (industrial waste, animal waste, etc.) and combined with other renewable energy sources such as for example renewable wind energy, through electrolysis. Indeed captured CO2 can be recycled into the methanol production, thereby cleaning the atmosphere of greenhouse gases.
